Original Cast Members
Sharnough Dauley-Hill
- 16 years old
- Attends Graveney Sixth Form
- Dedicated and Committed
- Previous Dance Experience
- Dance GCSE received a year early
Originally, these were the three girls that we chose to play the lead parts within our music video. This was because after watching the auditions, they seemed the most dedicated and enthusiastic about the task and presented themselves to be the most committed towards helping our video to be a success. However, when it came to filming schedules and planning when the different layers would be shot, Aniesha and Brianne were unable to film when we needed them to. This meant that we had to look at the audition tape again, and ask others if they wanted to play one of the main girls.

Brief Biography of the Official Group - RD
This PowerPoint gives a brief description about the original RD band members, how the group was created and recent performances they have done and collaborations that they are involved with. By making this biography, I have learnt more about the group as a whole which will really help with the staging, costume and overall ambiance that we will direct our girls to convey.

Mood Board of R'n'B Girl Groups
The mood board below has allowed us to get a clearer understanding of the images we will be looking to produce within our photo-shoot. Not only has it inspired us in terms of costume, design and the aura that girl bands express, but it has also given us many ideas for designing out digipack.

Mind Map of R'n'B Videos
Mind map
This mind map helped us to come up with ideas for our layers and think more deeply about the lyrics and the meaning that they convey. Through the lyrics of RD - Alrite Stillll, we learnt that the girls are singing about every day experiences and the atmosphere that they bring with them when they go clubbing.

Audition Poster
Audition Poster
The above PowerPoint was made to be shown on big projectors at our school. When we were looking for ideal members to play the RD girls, we decided to hold auditions so that we could get the best out of those that were interested. The poster describes details of where the auditions were held, what time they would begin and who to contact for alternative information. We also filmed the auditions so we were able to watch them back and give the main roles to those who performed the best.

Table of Frees
Table of Free Periods
This is a table of mine, Shamilla's and Tia's free lessons within average school days. We thought that this was vital to know as we could figure out filming times and planning times around when each of us were available.

Email to Big Mouth Entertainment - RD
As you can see, when we finally chose an artist to create a music video for, we had to again email their managers/production company to ask for permission to use their track. This song was called 'Alrite Stillll' by a new and upcoming girl group named 'RD' (Ruff Diamondz).
Shortly after I emailed the company, I received a response which stated they were happy to let us use the song. Their only request was that we send them the video after it is completed. With the permission letter out of the way, we now began to concentrate on finding the correct lyrics, holding auditions for our band members and other cast and beginning to plan the video itself.

TLC - Music Video 'No Scrubs'
The above video is one of TLC's most common songs titled 'No Scrubs'. The song is about the girls not wanting to get involved with certain stereotypical boys.

Additional Groups Before We Chose RD - TLC
TLC
TLC, a well known RnB group from the 90's, are an artist that have songs we potentially thought we could use. Consisting of three girls, TLC have a range of different tempo songs, altering from slow paced emotional songs, to more up beat songs such as 'No Scrubs'. Again, and similarly to Mis Teeq, the group are presented on screen as being very close friends but they are also sold as individuals who each have different personalities. There are clear examples were each individual artist is on screen alone, singing or rapping specific lyrics. This suggests that there is more to the group than just friends singing together, but also conveys the fact that they are normal girls looking to inspire and relate to their target audience. Due to this, we thought TLC would be great to make a music video for as we believed the group ticked all the boxes that are needed to produce a successful artist.
TLC Group Shot and
Individual Shot ¬
The main problem that we came across with using TLC as an artist for our video was the fact that they are an already signed group, and very well known. This meant that rather than just asking for permission like we would have had to do for Thicke, we would have had to get in touch with each band member individually to assure that they were okay with us using their songs. Due to the long process that this would have been, we decided to keep looking for an artist that is less famous.

Mis Teeq - Music Video 'Scandalous'
Mis Teeq - 'Scandalous'
Above is one of the girl group Mis Teeq's most well known video for their song titled 'Scandalous'. If we did decide to use this group as an artist, we would have probably used this song as it is quite up-beat and has a similar rhythm to our final RD song.

The above powerpoint presentation explains why the group Mis Teeq where an optional artist for our video and also why we chose not to use them.

Email to SNK Managament - Thicke
Above is the email that we sent to Thicke's management asking for permission to use their song. We stated who we were and why we wanted to use the song, along with website links to our blogs so they could see our previous AS Level work. With access to our work, they would also be able to see how are completing our work over the next few weeks. Unfortunately, we received an email back from the email server, stating that the email address was no longer in use. From this, we decided to use other ways of contact such as Facebook and Twitter to get hold of the band members from Thicke individually. When we did so, one of the band members tweeted back to us, unfortunately saying that she does not have a copy of 'Let U Go' as it was very old. However, she did send us a ink to her new website with a lot of new tracks on it.
Overall
We decided tp step away from Thicke as a group after realising that we were unable to get hold of the song we initially wanted. Our search for an artist continued.

Lyrics to Thicke - 'Let U Go'
THIKE - LET YOU GO
I’m so confused
I don’t know why I let you treat me like you do
We’ve got issues
I let you walk in and out of my life and that’s not right
So much hurt
So much pain
I never thought that I could feel like this but I do
Being in a relationship with you is like a rollercoaster.
(Chorus)
(and it all ends right there right there)
I let the rain fall down on me
I let you get away with everything (woooaahh)
I let you slide
My tears are high
to cover up mistakes you made (ooohhh heyyyy)
I let the rain fall down on me (i let it fall)
I let you get away with everything (woooaahh)
I let you slide
My tears are high
to cover up mistakes you made
(VERSE 2)
no more sleepless nights
Or waiting for you to unlock the door and come inside
I’ve gotta get a hold of myself
Cause I have too much pride
(For you to think that you can do the things you do )
i know that you don’t love me like you say you do
(i have to tell myself to just let go of you)
(spoken)
(Male)I’m sorry
(band member)Apology not accepted
(CHORUS)
(and it all ends right there right there)
I let the rain fall down on me (ooohh)
I let you get away with everything (yes i did)
I let you slide
My tears are high
to cover up mistakes you made(ohh the rain falls down yeaaahhh)
I let the rain fall down on me
I let you get away with everything (wooahhhh)
I let you slide
My tears are high (high)
to cover up mistakes you made
(BRIDGE)
Everything you did baby
I let you slide
Woaah
Everything you did baby
I let you slide
woooaahhhh
(I ,I gotta let you go repeated to the end)
Never said anything to hurt you baby
(Let you goo)Yeaahhhh
ohhh
ohhhohhhhhhh
I Yeaahhhhh
(Let you goooo)
Woaahhhh
I’m sorry(male)
Let you goooooo
I’m sorry (male)
From the lyrics to 'Let U Go', we felt it was very important to create a clear distinction between lyrics and visuals. As one of Goodwin's main ideologies based around music video analysis, we thought that to do this successfully we had to make the video look as professional as possible.
We had ideas such as a girl looking confused and not set on her mind with the lyrics 'I'm so confused' and when it says 'I let the rain fall down on me', we would have filmed when it was raining outside, so the scene created a good combination of both pathetic fallacy and deeper meaning.

Originally, me and my group members decided on a slow paced track by an unsigned girl group called 'Thicke'. We came across them on the website www.unsigned.com and believed that their track titled 'Let u Go' would be perfect to make a music video for. Furthermore, we began to understand the concept of the lyrics and emailed the group for permission (See emil in the post above).
Unfortunately, we found that the group had split up and that the email, website, and contact details of the group had all been cut off. Due to this, we decided to try and contact each member of the group individually through sites such as twitter and facebook but found that there was no way of being able to download the song. This meant that we had to choose a different, and sticking to a girl band vibe, we came across the group RD (Ruff Diamondz) on Youtube. However, before we made our final decision in choosing RD, there were many other artists that we looked at such as; 'Mis teeq', TLC, RTI and 3LW.
